Congress is about to make important decisions about historic preservation and cultural resources management funding, and they need to hear from CRM firms like yours!
In the coming weeks, the House and Senate will try to pass an annual spending bill for the Interior Department. Normally included in that bill is the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), a key source of funds or S/THPOs to help them facilitate Section 106 reviews. As we saw last spring, when the federal government delays sending monies to these offices, their ability to work with CRM firms on Section 106 consultations – not to mention facilitate Historic Tax Credit projects and National Register listings – is badly impaired.
We cannot let that happen again.
The good news is that both the House and Senate are proposing amounts for the HPF roughly equal to last year. While we all agree that more funding is needed, that’s far better than the White House’s initial proposal to eliminate nearly all funding to S/THPOs.
That’s why we need your help in reminding Congress about the importance of this funding source to ensuring an effective Section 106 process. Please use the form below to contact your members of Congress on the importance of the HPF!
