The past few years have seen a lot of changes in the industry, including increases in wages and salaries across the board. ACRA will be conducting its next round of the salary survey early next year, which will give firms a detailed look at trends in wages, salaries, benefits, and more (see the 2018 results here). While we wait for those full results, we have questions from a number of member firms about current trends in wage rates for field technicians and food allowance rates – so we conducted a quick survey!

67 member firms answered our survey about their current rates for archaeological technicians and daily food allowance. The overall results are in the charts below. A majority of firms are paying their archaeological technicians $18 – $20 per hour. The food allowance rate among firms is much more varied, with the highest percentage providing $55 – $59 per day.

The answers to both of these questions about rates also highly depended on the region(s) in which the firm operates. ACRA members are able to see the regional breakdowns.
