Location: Flexible (Any SRI Office Location)
Position Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Mid to Senior
Salary: $85,000 – $115,000 (commensurate with experience)
Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI) is seeking a sharp, passionate, and driven Architectural Historian to join our dynamic cultural resources team. If you thrive on fieldwork, live to interpret the built environment, and have a deep understanding of the architectural and historical fabric of the American West, we want to hear from you.
This is more than a job — it’s a chance to write history.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and conduct architectural surveys, historic resource evaluations, and impact assessments in compliance with federal and state regulations (NHPA, NEPA, CEQA, etc.)
- Participate in regular fieldwork; prior experience conducting fieldwork is required
- Research and document structures ranging from frontier-era homesteads to mid-century modern icons
- Author high-quality technical reports, historical contexts, National Register nominations, and eligibility assessments and forms
- Collaborate across disciplines with archaeologists, historians, and planners to deliver award-winning cultural resource solutions
- Represent SRI at public meetings, client presentations, and agency consultations
What We’re Looking For:
- M.A. or Ph.D. in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, or a closely related field
- Meets or exceeds Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in cultural resource management, with significant work in Western U.S. contexts (e.g., Alaska, California, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Washington, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of regional vernacular styles, urban and rural development patterns, and transportation-related infrastructure
- Proficiency in architectural survey techniques, archival research, and historic resource documentation (HABS/HAER/HALS experience a plus)
- Familiarity with Section 106/110, CEQA/NEPA compliance procedures
- A knack for balancing fieldwork with deadlines — and doing both exceptionally well. Fieldwork experience is required.
Why SRI?

- Competitive compensation and benefits
- A collaborative, intellectually rich work culture
- Exciting, high-profile projects that make an impact
