  • This position supports the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants office of the National Park Service and may be performed remotely.
  • The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support.
  • NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 52 weeks.
  • A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave.
  • The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as “Enrollees” and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Duties:

Enrollee will assist the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division of the National Park Service with review and management of historic preservation grants and education of applicants and awardees.

  • Assist with the technical review of grant applications, reports, draft and final projects. Assist with preservation project/program evaluation, including monitoring and assessing awardee performance, and establishing performance measures. Recommend or support the initiation of appropriate action to protect Government interests. 30%
  • Support the development and delivery of training, technical assistance, oversight, expertise, and consultation to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, recipients, and subrecipients as needed regarding historic preservation activities. 30%
  • Participate in monitoring, assessing, and ensuring awardee compliance with all applicable preservation laws and guidelines, especially the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation. Document compliance with all historic preservation regulatory and legal requirements. 25%
  • Communicate with external customers, recipients, and awardee community to clarify, interpret, and resolve issues related to historic preservation practices. 15%

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in historic preservation, grants OR BA/BS Degree

  • past experience working with historic preservation/technical architectural knowledge
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • MS Teams, Sharepoint

Other:

  • Travel Requirements: Occasional trips of one week or less could be required
  • Overnight travel: Occasional trips of one week or less could be required
  • Air travel anticipated: depending on enrollee location, air travel may be required
  • Rental cars: depending on enrollee location, use of a rental car may be required
  • Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. If site visits are required, some travel on paved and unpaved surfaces could be necessary.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
