Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. is looking for a Project Director to work out of our Bismarck, ND office. Project management experience and understanding of archaeological methods are a must for this position.  This position is full-time, regular and eligible for all benefits provided by Metcalf (health insurance, 401k plan, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with a salary that ranges from $45,000 to $60,000 depending on experience.

Primary responsibilities are structured around the procurement and execution of technical projects. Project Directors work in collaboration with a Project Manager to successfully execute technical projects. Project Directors are a critical point of contact with clients and agencies and are accountable for providing excellent and responsive customer service. Responsibilities extend to ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and statutes. Consistent monitoring of schedules, budgets, and field operations also comprise duties expected of the role. Our Project Directors not only supervise but contribute to technical aspects of projects as tasks are assigned.

Qualifications

  • M.A. or M.S. in Anthropology is required for this position
  • Sufficient experience to be listed in direct charge on antiquities permits in at least two states within the company’s operating region
  • Working knowledge of the prehistory and history in one or more of the company’s service regions
  • Working knowledge of the flora, fauna, geology, and lithic sources in one or more of Metcalf’s service regions
  • Familiarity with current research methods and trends in archaeology
  • At least five years of experience conducting archaeological investigations in a field setting
  • At least three years of experience supervising an archaeological field crew and participating in project management
  • Active First Aid/CPR certification is preferred (may be obtained after hire)
