What You’ll Do at Gray & Pape

As an Archaeologist 3, you will

  • Supervise archaeological fieldwork and research under the direction of a Principal Investigator;
  • Complete literature reviews, desktop assessments, and cultural resources due diligences;
  • Coordinate with the Principal Investigator and Logistics Coordinator on fieldwork planning (e.g., hotel, per diem, and vehicle rental) and schedule;
  • Conduct Phase I, II, and III archaeological fieldwork;
  • Supervise seasonal field technicians and organize and submit all associated field and administrative paperwork;
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports under the supervision of a Principal Investigator; and
  • Identify and catalog precontact cultural material on an as-needed basis.

What You Bring to Gray & Pape

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.
  • 3 years of CRM supervisory experience.
  • 3 years Northeast field experience leading and supervising field crews.
  • Demonstrated background in Northeast precontact history and cultural material.
  • Technical report writing experience, with or without direct supervision.
  • Experience applying National Register criteria to make eligibility and management recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in anthropology or closely related field.
  • Experience leading and supervising field crews on linear energy infrastructure projects (e.g., gas pipelines and electric transmission lines).
  • Knowledgeable in Northeast postcontact cultural material identification.

Travel
Travel is project-dependent with an expectation of travel outside the local area and for multiple days. Some projects may require extended travel.
