EDR is seeking a mid-career professional Archaeologist to join our growing Cultural Resources practice. This is a full-time position supporting EDR’s team based in Western New York. EDR currently offers hybrid office/remote work opportunities – this role would join our team that reports to our Rochester, NY office. The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $75,000.
This role will be focused on directing cultural resources surveys and assessments for renewable energy and infrastructure projects (including Solar, Wind, and Energy Transmission Projects) in New York and the Northeastern U.S. The successful candidate must have strong leadership skills, work well with other disciplines in a team environment, and be able to negotiate multiple concurrent projects. Must meet the minimum qualifications specified in Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation (36 CFR Part 61), including a minimum MA/MS degree in anthropology, history, or related field.
This position will require supervision of archaeological field crews, regular use of GPS, ArcGIS and office-based data processing, ability to travel (locally and out of state when required), ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, physical endurance to conduct archaeological field surveys in remote and challenging environments, ability to carry equipment (shovel and screen, GPS unit, cameras) while conducting fieldwork, ability to read and understand maps, and ability to prepare field records and drawings. Essential skills include:
- At least 3 years of experience directing archaeological/cultural resources investigations in New York and/or the Northeastern U.S.
- Strong research, data analysis, and writing skills, and demonstrated ability to prepare and review cultural resources reports and similar types of studies.
- The ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate the significance of archaeological sites and artifacts
- Demonstrated understanding of federal and state regulatory processes (e.g., NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act).
- Working knowledge of GIS and GPS technology, mapping, analysis, and data processing.
- Ability to travel (locally and out of state when required).
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions at times for extended hours (over 8) and multiple days.
Preference will be given to candidates with a diverse skill set who are able to support EDR’s related client services, including assistance with research/report writing for archaeology projects, environmental impact assessment, planning and/or landscape architecture projects, GIS mapping/analysis, visual impact assessment, and/or technical report writing/editing.
