Applied EarthWorks, Inc. is hiring a Senior Archaeologist to direct larger and more complex cultural resources projects and uphold Æ quality standards. This full-time position is in California and pays $76,900 – $93,600/yr DOE to start.

DUTIES:

The Senior Archaeologist will manage and direct larger and more complex cultural resources projects under the direction of a Principal and will supervise and review the work of junior staff. The Senior Archaeologist is responsible for ensuring the quality of all project work, including technical reporting. Job duties will include management of survey, testing and evaluation, and data recovery in support of CRM regulatory compliance; recruitment and management of regular and project-based staff; analysis of artifacts and preparation of the cultural resource sections of environmental documents; preparation and implementation of research designs and treatment plans; authorship of technical reports; consultation with Native Americans; preparation of proposals; participation in marketing and business development.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to design and supervise complex archaeological fieldwork, lab processing, and/or or technical analysis and report preparation;

  • Managing budgets, supervising personnel, scheduling staff and tasks related to specific projects;

  • Ability to manage proposal preparation;

  • Strong technical writing skills;

  • Writing and reviewing technical reports and research designs/treatment plans;

  • A thorough understanding of the CEQA, NEPA, and NHPA Section 106;

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in project needs;

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of colleagues, clients, agency and tribal representatives, construction contractors, and other project stakeholders;

  • Strong work ethic, demonstrated leadership ability, excellent communication and writing skills;

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and

  • Regional expertise in Æ service area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field desired.

  • Experience and expertise working with descendant communities.

  • Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible employment in CRM which includes demonstrated supervision or management experience.

  • Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification strongly preferred.

  • California and Arizona expertise highly desired.
