Hiring preference will be given to applicants living near, or willing to relocate near, our Montrose CO or Tulsa OK offices. Our Colorado mountain valley headquarters location enables our staff and their families to enjoy an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Alpine was established in 1988 and engages solely in contracted cultural resource studies throughout the western United States. We currently employ 28 full-time staff members and are adding additional team members to support our growing schedule of projects. Our people make us successful!

What You Will Contribute

As a Senior Project Archaeologist, you will provide leadership during inventory, testing, and excavation projects. The ability to lead multi session projects with multiple crew chiefs is essential. Our typical field work schedule is 8 days on, 6 days off. When not in the field, you will conduct background research, provide laboratory support, and write reports. You will collaborate with other Alpine team members to make National Register eligibility recommendations, evaluate site and project impacts, and design mitigation measures for all types of cultural resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or CRM is required for this position.
  • At least five years field supervisory experience in CRM, preferably involving Section 106 compliance projects, to meet federal and state agency permitting requirements
  • Permitted or qualified to be permitted as a Field Director/Crew Chief or higher in our service area (see map)
  • An ability to conduct fieldwork––including survey, testing, and data recovery––for long hours in inclement weather, rough terrain, and/or high elevations
  • Proficiency at the identification, recordation, and evaluation of archaeological sites of prehistoric and historical archaeological sites
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical writing, and proven ability and experience in all areas of archaeological inquiry (research, survey, excavation, and analysis)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel for 8 days at a time for field sessions; per diem and lodging is provided
  • Proficiency with software such as MS Word, Access, and  Excel

Salary and Benefit Package

Starting Salary Range: $62,000 – $72,000/year Staff benefits include:
