The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is now recruiting for the position of Equity Officer (GG-14) in Washington, DC. The ACHP is an independent federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and sustainable use of our nation’s diverse historic resources, and advises the President and the Congress on national historic preservation policy.

The Equity Officer is an important new position in the ACHP’s Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs. The Equity Officer will provide advice and assistance to the ACHP regarding equity and environmental justice issues as the agency works to promote the preservation of historic properties, particularly in non-tribal underserved communities. They also will help the ACHP in ensuring diversity and equity in the ACHP workplace. Applicants must have diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility expertise. Knowledge of cultural resources and historic preservation would be beneficial, though not required.

Among other duties, the Equity Officer will work on courses for non-tribal, undeserved communities about the Section 106 historic preservation review process. They will assist in analyzing proposed federal equity and environmental justice legislation, regulations, guidelines, and policies to explore opportunities to integrate preservation of historic places of concern to underserved communities. The Equity Officer also will assist the ACHP’s Office of Tribal and Indigenous Peoples as needed.
