Alpine Archaeological Consultants, Inc. has an opening for a full-time Project Archaeologist or Senior Project Archaeologist, dependent on experience. We are a women-owned cultural resource management firm that collaboratively meets the needs of our clients on a variety of projects in a 12-state region.

Hiring preference may be given to an individual willing to relocate near our Montrose headquarters or our Tulsa, Oklahoma office; however, we are also interested in applicants who are within our region and are willing to work remotely and travel to one of our offices regularly.

What You Will Contribute

You will provide excellent leadership during inventory, testing, and excavation projects. Our typical fieldwork schedule is 8 days on, 6 days off, which allows you to recharge in between field sessions. When not in the field, you will conduct background research, provide laboratory support, and write reports. You will collaborate with other Alpine team members to make National Register eligibility recommendations, evaluate site and project impacts, and design mitigation measures for all types of cultural resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field is required for both positions.

A Master’s degree is strongly preferred for the position of Senior Project Archaeologist.

  • Experience:
    • Project Archaeologist: At least two years of field supervisory experience in
    • Senior Project Archaeologist: At least three years of field supervisory experience in CRM, including leading multi-session projects with multiple crew
  • Permitted, or qualified to be permitted, as a Crew Chief or higher in all, or part of, our 12-state service
  • An interest and ability to conduct fieldwork that may involve hiking in inclement weather, rough terrain, and/or high
  • Proficiency in identification, recordation, and evaluation of prehistoric and historical archaeological
  • Demonstrable experience in technical writing and
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for field leadership and project
  • Willingness to travel for 8-day field sessions with per diem and single occupancy lodging
  • Proficiency with software such as MS Word, Access, and

Salary and Benefit Package

Starting salary range:

  • Project Archaeologist: $55,000–$65,000/year, dependent upon qualifications
  • Senior Project Archaeologist: $65,000–$75,000/year, dependent upon qualifications Staff benefits include:
    • 11 paid holidays, 13 paid vacation days, and 10 paid sick days during the first
