The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to develop a Nationwide Programmatic Agreement for its cultural resources financial assistance undertakings. According to the NPS, the proposed Nationwide PA will “include cultural resources activities that are considered undertakings under Section 106 within its grant programs and cooperative agreements.”

Congress authorizes the NPS, through its Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Directorate, to provide Federal financial assistance to states, Tribes, local governments, and others to support the protection and interpretation of the nation’s heritage. Projects, activities, or programs that are carried out with Federal financial assistance are considered undertakings requiring compliance with Section 106.

The NPS is accepting comments on a proposed Nationwide PA through August 17, 2023.  Comments may be submitted online by clicking the “Open for Comment” link on this page and selecting the “Consultation Package NPS Nationwide PA Cultural Resources Financial Assistance” file. This action will open the comment submission screen. Alternatively, comments may be submitted via email at financial_assistance_pa_comments@nps.gov.

The ACRA Government Relations Committee is reviewing the NPS proposal to determine whether and how ACRA should provide public comments. If you would like to share your thoughts with ACRA, please send them to amanda@acra-crm.org no later than August 10, 2023.
