Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. is looking for an experienced Architectural Historian to work in any of our offices (Golden or Grand Junction, CO, Bismarck, ND, or Bozeman, MT). This position is full-time, regular, and eligible for all benefits provided by Metcalf (health insurance, 401k plan, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with an hourly wage that ranges from $22.00 to $29.00 per hour (equating to roughly $46,000 to $60,000 per year), depending on experience. Architectural Historians at Metcalf work independently on smaller projects or as part of a larger team under the direction of a Project Supervisor and conduct historic resource surveys and assessments. On some projects, the Architectural Historian may act as a project supervisor. Responsibilities also extend to ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and permits, monitoring schedules and budgets, and maintaining high levels of quality.
Qualifications
- M.S or M.A. in Architectural History, History, Anthropology, or a related field
- Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s professional standards for history and/or architectural history
- At least three years of experience recording historic resources, including a significant number of historic architecture and built environment resources
- Currently listed, or able to be listed, as person in direct charge of fieldwork on antiquities permits in at least one of Metcalf’s major states or federal jurisdictions
- Demonstrated experience in cultural resource management and working knowledge of state and federal regulations including the Section 106 process and historic preservation statutes
- Experience with the Historic American Buildings Survey/Engineering Record/Landscape Survey documentation and procedures is preferred
- Experience working with National Register Nominations is preferred
- Experience supervising crews is preferred but not required
- Active First Aid/CPR certification (may be obtained after hiring)

- Able to work independently without direct supervision
