This webinar is a special opportunity for ACRA members to gain important insights into a recent study of health among archaeologists nationwide. The webinar will present the development of the survey, selected results from an ongoing analysis of the data, and discuss future directions for assessing and monitoring the health of members of the archaeological profession. The issue of occupational health and safety in archaeology, and in particular cultural resource management, has been a topic of discussion and study since the 1970s. However, these studies have almost entirely focused on threats to physical health and safety, and have largely ignored mental health/wellbeing within the profession. In an attempt to rectify this shortcoming, and with the support of ACRA, the Society for Historic Archaeology, and the Register of Professional Archaeologists, a survey was distributed nationally to archaeologists living and working in the United States.

The expert presenters for this webinar are David Anderson, Gary Gilmore, and Ryan McKelly. Dr. Anderson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He is an archaeologist with over 30 years experience conducting archaeological research in the eastern United States and Middle East. Dr. Gilmore is a public health epidemiologist and public health educator who serves as Professor and Director of the Graduate Public Health and Community Health Programs at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Dr. McKelly is a Licensed Psychologist, Associate Professor of Clinical/Counseling Psychology, and Department Chair at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

We are fortunate to have such a great team assessing health and wellness within the archaeology discipline!
